Eskeez mention on WhatSheWears.ie - Ski Wear for Kids - 27th January 2010

Today’s episode  if Ski Wear for Kids is inspired by my nephews and nieces Luca, Finn, Oscar, Anna, Molly and Chiara who were skiing in Austria earlier this month.

I wish I could be as fearless on the slopes as them (there’s no helping my technique at this stage) so instead I’m sticking to looking good on the slopes, catching up with friends over gluwein and participating in the après ski shenanigans.

I don’t know much about this subject as children’s wear is not a WhatSheWears.ie specialty,  so I turned to my sister Carmel, who is an expert in the field.

Firstly, Carmel highly recommends Eskeez’ base layers (for tops, shorts and trousers) for her kids ski essentials. Eskeez use very fine wicking fleece-lined material which is used base layer for under a snow suit. The great thing about these base layers is that you can double-up on their use and wear under rugby or football shirts during winter.

Considering the floods and other wet weather extremities of late, you might also want to check out check out Puddleducks, an Irish company who specialise in Waterproof Dungarees from Sweden, waterproof clothing, fleeces and rain gear children up to 14 years old (and, if you want to join them, waterproofs for adults too).

Carmel also swears by Lizzie Shirt for multicolour fleeces which are very thick and wear fantastically well, survive 2-3 years washing and look great to boot!  While not appropriate for the actual slopes, these are fantastic quality to wear around the ski resort. Lizzie Shirt can be mail ordered to Ireland too.

If you like the Yummy Mummy style similar to Avoca, you’ll love the children’s winter clothes from Joules.  Their style is not unlike that of Boden and they do a winter and summer junior range. Again, Joules is very hardwearing and excellent quality for sweatshirts and rugby shirts. All Joules shops sell online and post to Ireland.

Boden sell a winter fur- lined fleecy winter coat with fleece lining for girls which has detachable arms and hood so can be used as ski jacket and then as a gillet in spring. It’s out of stock now but will be in range next year.

Aldi sells decent budget ski-wear in children’s sizes in January. There’s no point in shelling out hundreds when junior is going to grow out of the jacket in 12 months time ( in which case, you should forget everything you read above, but it’s my savvy tip for the day).

For junior skiers, it is always worth swapping ski suits with friends and relatives, as they grow out of stuff  so fast it is sensible to share the expense with others.

And finally, not to forget that the most important ski accessory is the skiing helmet.  Most resorts provide them for children but in Europe they are not yet mandatory (unlike in the US).

Eskeez on GolfMagic.com - Golf fashion: Winter warmers - 28th August 2009

by Bob Warters

Originally made popular by Scandinavian players retaining warmth in European autumn competitions while exposing their colourful fashion styles, closing-fitting base-layers have become a recognised part of club golfers' clothing.

And with this in mind, Stuburt, one of the world's fastest growing golf shoe and rainwear company, has extended its product range with the launch of a stylish autumn/winter performance clothing range.

Stuburt’s Dri-Back base-layer (£24.99), available in white or black (small to XL), incorporates a unique double-sided fabric which wicks sweat away from the skin but also circulates heat to help maintain the body’s ‘core’ temperature. The ‘compression fit’ design helps increase muscle support and blood flow on cold winter days.

On a similar theme, Eskeez has designed a new clothing range to take the chill away from children and adults playing sport in the winter months. The lightweight thermal base-layer includes long sleeve tops, hats, leggings and shorts which are all made from a fabric developed for extreme conditions.

Made from tight brush fleece on the inside and smooth slip knit on the outside, they even provide a first layer of extra warmth under wetsuits.

Prices for a long-sleeved top start at £25 and are available online from www.eskeez.co.uk

Eskeez in the North Devon Journal - Eskeez sports vest devised by North Devon entrepreneur - 10th September 2009

A BARNSTAPLE entrepreneur was inspired to create a new clothing range after watching her sons shiver on a school rugby pitch.

Karen Robinson, a former marketing consultant and property developer, was on the touchline at St Michael's private school in Tawstock watching her boys Alastair, 10, and Archie, seven, playing rugby on a cold November day.

She said: "The sleet was coming down and at half-time the boys were huddling under our coats and they were absolutely frozen."

After looking around, she found some types of thermal clothing, but nothing she thought was affordable and ideal for children. So she approached Braunton wetsuit designer Chris Reed, who developed a prototype thermal vest using manmade fibres.

Karen was keen for the new clothing to be easily worn underneath other clothing, such as sports kit.

"We thought we had struck on something and every kid in the country could be wearing it," she added.

After her own children tried out the vests, she started getting orders from other parents and outdoor sports enthusiasts. Now she has labelled the clothing range Eskeez, arranged for manufacturing in Cullompton, and established an online shop.

She runs the operation from her home, with some support from her husband, a surveyor, in his spare time.

Eskeez are being marketed as "affordable lightweight thermal base layers for use in winter sport". The fabric takes sweat away from the body (a process known as wicking).

Karen said the name Eskeez was inspired by a combination of thinking about Eskimos in warm clothes and "cosies".

The business has just been launched and Karen has engaged a public relations firm to market the enterprise.

Eskeez on Newborn2teen.com - Eskeez helps babies and toddlers enjoy a snuggly winter - 5th January 2010

Eskeez, the British brand’s range of adults and children’s lightweight thermal base layers has been extended with long sleeve tops in two new baby and toddler sizes. Eskeez founder and mother of three Karen Robinson, from Barnstaple in Devon, identified a demand in the market for the tiny versions after she won orders from a number of children’s nurseries.

Karen said: “The Eskeez range has surpassed all my expectations since I launched it earlier this year. I suspected we had hit on a great market, and I am glad to say we seem to be giving parents the product they’ve been hunting down for years.

"

“I had a tiny Eskeez top made for my one year old daughter Ava and so many parents admired it and started asking for them that I realised this had to be the next product in our range,” explains Karen.

“The quality and softness of the Eskeez tops ensure that little ones are kept really snug and warm but the technology of the fabric makes sure they don’t overheat. This means they’re ideal for all kinds of winter weather – from damp, miserable days through to the absolutely freezing.”

Karen devised the original idea for the Eskeez range while watching her two older sons play rugby on a bleak November day. She realized there was a market for hard-wearing tops that were light weight, kept the warmth in and the chill out, looked good and were affordable.

As well as tops, the range includes hats, leggings and sports shorts, all designed to keep the body warm and dry during winter sports.

The clothing is all developed from a fabric originally designed to withstand even the most extreme conditions and which can ‘wick’ sweat away from the body and on to the outer surface of the fabric to evaporate.

All Eskeez base layers are in a super comfortable tight brush fleece on the inside and smooth slip knit on the outside, making them ideal for a wide range of sports including rugby, football, cycling, running, riding, athletics, skiing and sailing.

They even provide a first layer of extra warmth under wetsuits.

The two new sizes are 24” (for ages one to two) and 26” (three to four years old). The long sleeved baby size tops are priced at £25 each.

Eskeez featured by BikeRadar - First look: Eskeez base layers -

Eskeez is a new British company that makes affordable lightweight thermal base layers for use in winter sport. The range includes long-sleeve tops, hats, leggings and shorts which are all made from a fabric developed for the most extreme conditions.

Mother-of-three Karen Robinson from Barnstaple, North Devon came up with the idea for Eskeez after watching her sons Alastair, 10, and Archie, seven, playing rugby on a cold November day.

“It struck me that my boys and the rest of them on the field that day really needed something warm but 'cool' to wear under their kit," she said. "Even the children in designer base layers still seemed cold. That’s when I planned Eskeez, a range of high quality base layers, providing exceptional warmth and comfort without bulk.”

The clothing has a tight brush fleece on the inside and smooth slip knit on the outside. Yarns are coated with a durable water repellent so the clothing dries quickly. Prices for a long sleeved top start at just £25.

Over the past year Karen has taken orders for Eskeez from her children’s friends and now from their parents too. She has now launched an online shop.
“Eskeez really is an ideal solution for anybody who enjoys sport but doesn’t enjoy getting chilly in the winter," she said. "The base layers work incredibly well for children and for adults; cyclists, riders, skiers, sailors and even for people like me who just love to be snug and warm when the weather turns colder.”
